Drawing on my extensive experience of working with the body through dance and theatre, I have observed, sensed and felt the physicality of one body among others, its transformation through light, movement, effort or surrender, and the emotions that pass through it.
Filled with these sensations and observations, I wanted to translate into images what had struck me. In dance, almost all the bodies I had encountered were female, so I turned primarily to the male body in search of these images, seeking to confirm or challenge what I thought I knew. There is a need to portray the body differently, to reclaim its representation, which remains heavily mediated today according to a single dominant model.
Gradually, I also felt the need to construct my own representation of masculinity, to assert my own gaze as a woman, to explore my desire for this other body and, in doing so, to attempt to convey the desire and vibrancy that emanate from it.
I approached this work from a close-up perspective, seeking to get as close as possible to sensation, to the very skin. I worked over extended periods, with very long sessions lasting several hours, using very low natural light and focusing exclusively on individual parts of the body, removing the body from its context. It is thus presented naked and exposed.
The length of these sessions allows the models to forget themselves and reach a state of bodily surrender, a state in which nothing is imposed upon them. It is then that the truth of the body emerges.
There is no artifice. The bodies are presented as they are, in their simplest expression; only their positioning in space is staged. At times, they appear against a neutral backdrop that reveals nothing of the surrounding context, like an enclosed space unto itself, where the body takes possession of its environment. At other times, nature becomes their setting: unsettling and archaic, seemingly giving birth to or dissolving these bodies.

About the artiste :
The image came to me through words: those of others and those I formulated myself. Literature was my first cinema, a factory of images I could carry everywhere, brought to life as soon as I began reading.
At the age of seven, I received my first camera and glimpsed the possibility of bringing the world into harmony with my mental images, as though composing the score of my inner music.
Every photograph I create emerges from prolonged observation and a long process of maturation. The darkroom begins in my mind and requires a lengthy development process, often lasting months, sometimes years.
Within the space of an image, I create the world. For the duration of an image, I give it form and make that image my own body, my own story.
I become the image, or it becomes me. It is impossible to say, so deeply are we intertwined.
